While consulting to Scarborough Grace Hospital during the 2003 SARS crisis, Ann was responsible for developing a community outreach strategy designed to rebuild the hospital’s reputation with patients, patrons, community members, government officials, the health care community and more. Ann also developed a “worst case scenario” strategy document which outlined what could go wrong and the appropriate communications response, advised on how to improve employee morale and drafted a variety of media materials during the crisis.

While consulting to Cadillac Fairview, Ann helped the organization gain approval for developing a mall in the outskirts of a large Ontario city. The CF plan was initially met with resistance from the mayor and city councilors, as they felt it would further erode the city centre. After coordinating an extensive community and media relations campaign, the mayor and council shifted their support to CF and the company’s proposed property development went ahead.

While Director of Communications at Rogers AT&T Wireless, Ann was responsible for helping secure municipal approval for proposed cellular towers throughout Ontario. She regularly coordinated community relations efforts which included developing all necessary background material, conducting media and presentation skills training for Rogers’ real estate planners and radio frequency engineers, meeting with town councils, making presentations to local residents and acting as the corporate spokesperson.

Also while at Rogers AT&T Wireless, Ann was responsible for handling daily health and safety inquiries from customers, employees and the media into independent studies linking cell phones to cancer, driving distractions and concerns about residential proximity to cellular towers.

While consulting to Purolator, Ann was part of a team that developed a national crisis communications plan. A key part of the plan included a two-day off-site meeting with the company’s management, where she conducted media training and worst case scenario role-playing. This initiative ensured the entire management team at Purolator supported the crisis plan and was familiar with its objectives, messages and procedures. It also ensured that in the event of an accident or spill, Purolator would be able to quickly and effectively mobilize and manage its response to the situation.

While consulting to a major Canadian broadcaster, Ann helped coordinate the announcement of a massive employee layoff. Through the research and development of consistent key messages, a bullet proof Q & A and presentation skills training for executives, the announcement was delivered clearly, compassionately and seamlessly to employees across the country and was portrayed as such in the media.
